Kick launched in late 2022 into a live streaming market that Twitch had dominated for a decade, and made its case on money. Where the incumbent took half of subscription revenue, Kick offered creators ninety-five per cent, which was aggressive enough that a number of large streamers moved across within months.
It also positioned itself around lighter moderation, which brought both an influx of creators and a steady stream of controversy. The platform is young, well funded and growing quickly, and its conventions are still being established rather than settled.
As with any live platform, the material is long and the archive is uncertain. Broadcasts run for hours, clips are cut from them by viewers, and how long anything remains available depends on decisions the platform has not had long enough to make consistent. That uncertainty is the practical argument for downloading.

Why people save Kick video
The platform is new, and newness means uncertainty. Retention policies, moderation decisions and the availability of old broadcasts are all still being worked out, which is a reasonable argument for not assuming anything will be there in six months.
