Bluesky attracted a disproportionate number of photographers, illustrators and artists in its early years, largely because the platforms they had been using were making life harder for exactly that group. Image posts there carry more original creative work than the network's size would suggest.
It also developed an unusually strong culture around alt text almost immediately. Describing an image for people who cannot see it became a community expectation rather than an accessibility checkbox, and posts without it get politely corrected in a way that does not happen elsewhere.
Underneath, the network is built on a protocol rather than a single company's servers, which means an account's data may live with a provider other than the main one. That is invisible most of the time and occasionally explains why an address looks unfamiliar.

Why people save from Bluesky
A great deal of original art is posted there, frequently by people who left other platforms and have no intention of returning. If an artist stops posting, their work is not mirrored to five other places the way it once would have been.
The network is also young enough that deletion is casual. People clear posts while working out what they want the account to be, and accounts opened in the early rush get abandoned without ceremony.
And searching backwards is weak. A chart or an illustration from several weeks ago is difficult to find again even when you remember who posted it.
Handles, providers and addresses
Because identity on Bluesky is portable, addresses vary in ways that confuse people arriving from centralised platforms.

The fourth row causes most failures. These links carry an identifier after the handle and removing it leaves you pointing at a profile rather than at the post holding the images.
