When an artist enables downloads, they are making a deliberate choice: reach matters more to them at this stage than control. For an independent musician building an audience, a track that spreads is worth more than one that is locked down, and many of them say so explicitly.
That choice is theirs to make rather than ours to assume. Where the button is absent, the artist has not made it, and the respectful reading is that they would rather you streamed it — which on this platform still generates a payout to them.
